SELINUNTE

The visit to Selinunte is certainly one of the most evocative of all Sicily.

The abundance of the ruins, the beauty of the place and landscape, so do remember that everything here in Greece. Selinunte was colonized by the Greeks the city was later destroyed by the Carthaginians. A violent earthquake reduced it to a pile of ruins, including those of the substantial eastern temples and the temples of the Acropolis.

The archaeological remains are one of the most remarkable complex of the Mediterranean, particularly interesting are the temples, they can follow the evolution of the Doric temple in Sicily. Among the monuments of Selinunte to consider during the visit there is the sanctuary of Melaphoros so named for the large number of statues with feminine faces and bearing in his hand a pomegranate.
